This image creates a feeling from the adrenaline, nerves and constant smiles ear to ear. Many people would see this as just a blue field but I see it as a stage, a test run, and being a part of a community or seen as a family. Being a part of a team trying to win nationals overlooked by all the sweat and helmets. Holding hands before we walk to the center of the lighting bolt praying we hit all our stunts, nerves with everyone looking at you and only a preparation before Nationals in Florida. The day doesn’t start here however it starts in a dorm room filled with the smell of hairspray, compacted with twenty girls all wearing the same shirt and top, screams and loud girl empowering music filling the room. A frantic conversation can be heard about who last saw someone’s cheer lighting bolt bow, and donut frosting on the floor ending up on our crisp clean white shoes. All getting ready in panic rushed times before the time runs out or the RA comes in with a noise complaint. All problems set aside, with one common goal of hitting and hoping UNE football wins. Our team song plays on repeat to hype us all up early in the morning with then winding blowing through the window on a normal Maine cloudy day. The last photo gets taken with the loud “click” and you will hear a scream “It’s time to go”. Twenty girls run down the old dark halls, only hearing footprints and the elevator coming up to the third floor. The elevator reflects all the body’s cramped together, with so many voices at once, the smell of coffee fills in tight spaces until you can see the sun shine though in the corner of the window of the first floor. Footsteps run out and the loud Beyoncé song is back on repeat, some girls can be seen walking to the field smacking rosy pink blush on their face hoping it will stay, some will be holding hands so tight you can see a muscle pop, some shaking from the clouds in the sky on a windy fall day. The path across campus will include the trees having their leaves fall in beautiful colors, the smell of the sea and rinstines left behind in our path. It leads us to the bright big blue field where the sweat is dripping from the helmets of the football players who will hear loud noises sounding like they are in pain knocking each other off their feet. Game day spirit is in the air as the roaring noises of so many people cramp to fit in the ice cold metal bleachers, children crying, dogs barking all while we warm up to prepare. We scream our secret chant that no one understands but only the team and throw the preps in the air because we are trying to look prepared. This is only the beginning of our day.
